The sustainability of metal packaging

Count on the right packaging material - choose sustainability!

With metal packaging, you are not only opting for an attractive packaging that puts the spotlight on your product, but also a sustainable material. When the packaging is recycled, the tinplate it is made of can be reused as raw material infinately without losing its properties. 80% of the steel ever produced worldwide is still in use today!

The „Metal Recycles Forever“ logo represents the advantage of sustainability of metal packaging. The TM logo was developed by the industry initiative of Metal Packaging Europe and is provided free of charge in compliance with the usage guidelines. Show your customers that you use high-quality metal packaging that enables a resource-saving recycling economy. Register now with the Pirlo code* at https://www.metalrecyclesforever.eu/!

bluemint® Steel - the high-quality flat steel with reduced CO2 intensity

In autumn 2021 thyssenkrupp launched two new climate-friendly steel products. The material properties do not differ from the existing steel grades - except in their reduced specific CO2 emissions. These products offer the possibility to use high-quality steel with an improved eco-balance.

Recycling of tinplate

Tinplate consists of natural elements. This means that the quality and properties of the raw material remain unchanged through the recycling process. New products can be made from recycled metal through repeated cycles. The recycled material retains its fundamental properties even without adding any new primary material.

The metal packaging industry is the perfect example of a circular economy. The recycling process is always a closed loop. Thanks to the magnetic properties of tinplate, it can be separated efficiently to ensure purity during the recycling process.

Recycling rate

Currently, 80% of tinplate packaging in Europe is recycled, making it one of the packaging materials with the highest recycling rates worldwide
